How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you've been asking yourself that question, that's already a good sign. Therapy isn't just for people in crisis, it's for anyone who feels stuck, overwhelmed, or ready for something to change.
You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out. You just need to be open to the process.
You might benefit from therapy if you:
Feel anxious, sad, or emotionally drained more days than not
Are struggling to cope with a loss, life transition, or difficult relationship
Have experienced trauma that still affects your daily life
Find yourself stuck in the same patterns no matter how hard you try to change
Simply want a safe, judgment-free space to talk and be heard
There's no threshold you have to meet to deserve support. Whether you're navigating something specific or just know that something feels off, therapy can help you gain clarity, build coping skills, and move forward with more confidence.
If you're on the fence, a free consultation is a great low-pressure way to ask questions and see if it feels like a good fit.
No commitment required.
What can I expect at my first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and understand what brings you to therapy. We will review your concerns, current stressors, relevant history, therapy goals, and any questions you may have about the process. I will also explain confidentiality, consent forms, policies, and the structure of therapy sessions. The first session is not about having everything figured out. It is about creating a safe starting point and identifying how I can best support you.
Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?
Great question — and the short answer is yes.
Research consistently shows that telehealth therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress. Many clients actually find that being in their own environment helps them feel more relaxed and open during sessions.
At Steady Mind Counseling, we've seen firsthand how meaningful and transformative online therapy can be. The connection, the breakthroughs, and the progress — it all happens through a screen just as powerfully as it does in a office.
A few added benefits of telehealth:
No commute — save time and show up from wherever you are
More flexibility — easier to fit sessions into a busy schedule
Greater comfort — many clients open up more in a familiar environment
Wider access — get quality care without being limited by location
The most important ingredient in successful therapy isn't where you meet, it's the relationship you build with your therapist and your commitment to the process.
We're here to make sure that foundation is strong, screen or no screen.
What do I need for a telehealth session?
For telehealth sessions, you will need a private, quiet space, a reliable internet connection, and a phone, tablet, or computer with audio and video capability. Please make sure you are in a confidential location where you feel comfortable speaking openly. For safety and clinical reasons, I may ask you to confirm your physical location at the beginning of the session.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes, we offer a free 15-minute consultation.
This is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation — not a therapy session. It's simply a chance for us to connect, hear a little about what's bringing you in, and answer any questions you might have about the process, fees, or what to expect.
It's also a great opportunity for you to get a feel for whether we're the right fit. The relationship between a therapist and client matters, and we want you to feel confident and comfortable before committing to anything.

How often will we meet?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and consistency. Depending on your goals, needs, and progress, we may adjust to a biweekly schedule or another schedule that works best for you. We will discuss frequency together and revisit it as therapy progresses.
